The hidden side of toothpaste 😓

As you may know, most cosmetic products, known as conventional, contains synthetic ingredients. They are often denounced for their lack of environmental respect and their potentially toxic effect if used in combination with others and repeatedly (cocktail effect).

More than 80% of cosmetics fall into this category. Toothpastes are obviously part of it.

☢ Indeed, some conventional toothpastes contain controversial substances for health or the environment such as:

  • nano-sized titanium dioxide, suspected of being carcinogenic, weakening the immune system or even causing type 2 diabetes
  • triclosan suspected of being an endocrine disruptor that increases cancer risk
  • fluoride, also a suspected endocrine disruptor, which would also disrupt the immune system.

What alternative then ?

  • Homemade toothpastes « DIY »

♻ The benefits of a DIY toothpaste :

  • Saving: making your own toothpaste will be cheaper than buying it in the supermarket, few ingredients are needed and you can reuse them for other recipes.
  • It's fun: children in particular love it. The recipes must, of course, be done under adult supervision.
  • You know what is inside.

❕ Baking soda or white clay is often used in DIY recipes. However, its use shouldn't be daily or it may be too abrasive to the teeth.
